What kind of content can I listen to using this app?
Whether it’s Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Oldies, Country, World, Latino, News, or Sports, Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Radio Powered by CBS Radio guarantees you’ll be able to connect directly with all your favorite music, news and information no matter where you are!
back to topWhat is the difference between so-called "interactive" and "non-interactive" streams?
The Y! Music app streams two distinct kinds of stations; interactive & non-interactive. Interactive streams include all of Yahoo!'s stations and a handful of CBS Radio online-only stations, like 40 + Reunion Radio stations including top songs from 1960 to the present. Non-interactive streams include all of CBS Radio's over-the-air sports, news and music stations, like WFAN, 1010 WINS, and KROQ. The main difference between interactive and non-interactive streams is the ability to skip songs. Every time you launch an interactive station, you will be listening to a unique music experience. No two streams are the same! With non-interactive stations, you will be listening to the same stream that is being broadcast on the air. If you're in Los Angeles, you can listen to a station in New York as if you were really there! It's like being in two places at once!
Take that, future!
All of the song controls for the Y! Music app are contained within the Now Player "Stage". Understanding & mastering these controls will grant you the ability to maximize your listening experience.
Skip Counter

Though skipping is fun, it comes with great responsibility... DMCA law prohibits more than six (6) skips every hour. In case you have trouble counting, we'll do it for you! On interactive stations only (sorry, non-interactive stations), the skip button displays with a small golden number next to it. Every time you skip a song, that number will decrease by one (1), until it reaches zero (0). When reaching 0, a message will appear reminding you that you have exceeded your skip allotment for the hour. As time forges forward, you may notice that the skip counter will begin counting up, back to 6.
Volume
You can use the built in volume adjustment on the side of the iPhone or Touch, or use the touch interface to adjust the stream's volume:

Buy & Share
While listening to any station, you will have the opportunity to buy the currently-playing song (pending iTunes availability) and to share the station (via e-mail) you're listening to:
| Buy | Share |
![]() | ![]() |
The tabs for these features are located at the bottom of the application's
display. If the song is available for purchase, the "Buy in iTunes"
tab will be activated. When pressing this button you will
be asked if you want to leave
the app and visit the iTunes Store.
NOTE: this will stop song playback.
The share button is available with every station, and when pressed, an empty text box will display. To send a link to the station you are listening to, press the blue plus icon to add someone from your contacts, or press the box to manually enter an address. Sharing Rules!
There are four main menus to help you navigate over 300 radio stations; Genre, Stations, Favorites & History.
GenreThere are many genres to search through to help you find a station you'll enjoy.
The Genre menu is the default view for the application. There are approximately 300 stations avaialble in the app. There are 19 genres, plus Yahoo! Exclusives, and filters to view only LAUNCHcast stations or only CBS Radio stations.
Simply touch your favorite genre and enjoy the array of options you're given:

![]() | ![]() |
The first allows you to search by broadcast city; from New York to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. If you're from Detroit, but now live in San Francisco, you can take your favorite hometown radio station with you!
The second option is to allow your device's GPS determine the nearest broadcast city. If you're in a new city, and want to quickly find great sports, news or music stations you can!
You can set any station to your 'favorites' simply by pressing the star icon, available everywhere a station is listed. When favorited, the star illuminates gold.

Why is there advertising in my stream? Can I deactivate advertising?
Advertising allows you to listen to the Y! Music app for free! Every artist
that you hear in the streams gets paid for their creative endeavors, so
by listening to advertisements you're actually supporting the arts! Take
pride in your contribution. And, no. You can't deactivate the ads.
How much advertising will I be subjected to?
You will only hear advertisements approximately 4 minutes an hour for interactive
stations, and 6 minutess an hour for non-interactive streams.
Troubleshooting
I received an error message. What does it mean?
While the Yahoo! LAUNCHcast App works well using both the EDGE & 3G service, it works best with a WiFi signal. Understanding what the various error messages mean will help if you are having connection issues.
| Buffering... | Loading | Connection Error |
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
"Buffering" indicates that the stream has been connected to, and that audio will begin playing in a few moments.
"Loading" appears when the application is searching for a connection. Typically, you will usually only see this when connecting using the EDGE network, though not always.
Anytime you see the "Connection Error" screen, a connection was unable to be established. If you see this screen, your only course of action is to close the application, and try again later.
If you find that any of the following appears for longer than bearable,
there is most likely a service or network outage. If you are certain of
network availability, restarting the app may help recover service interruption.
Why can't I skip songs?
Skipping songs is only available when listening to interactive streams. If the skip icon is grayed-out, you are most likely listening to a non-interactive stream.
Another possibility is that you have exceeded the allowable skip allotment, as determined by the DMCA, which is 6 per hour. The skip counter will display a "0" and an error message will display indicating that you have no skips remaining.
The application crashes when listening to terrerstrial streams. Why?
There is a known issue with version 1.0 of the Y! Music app that caused it to crash when loading a non-interactive stream. If you are experiencing this problem, please update the application to version 1.1 or above. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
